Paramedics among injured after ambulance hit by unlicenced driver in Osoyoos

OSOYOOS – An unlicenced driver who police say was driving too fast collided with a B.C. ambulance last week, sending four people to hospital, police reported today.

The ambulance was not in service and had no passengers on board.

A Chevrolet Malibu crossed the centre line around 7 p.m., March 10, on Highway 97 near 128 Avenue, Cpl. Jason Bayda of Osoyoos RCMP says in a release today, March 15.

"The northbound Malibu failed to negotiate a curve due to speed and crossed the centre line," Bayda says. "Both paramedics were taken to the Oliver hospital with minor injuries and later released."

The driver and passenger of the car were also taken to hospital with minor injuries and were released. Bayda says both vehicles 'sustained considerable damage.'

The 21-year-old driver of the car, from Osoyoos, did not have a drivers licence, Bayda says. He was charged with driving without due care and attention and driving without a licence.
