Keeping the kids busy during spring break in Penticton
PENTICTON – There are a variety of sports and arts program to help keep the kids busy and active during the March break, which runs through the end of next week.
The City of Penticton’s Recreation Department has some special activities for March break, which began March 14 in the city, running through Thursday, March 23.
Recreation Coordinator Kelsey Johnson says a spring break day camp is being offered for kids aged six to 12 years old. The action-packed day camp includes sports, pool time, crafts, special events, games and other exciting activities. The camp runs March 21-24.
The Keeners program is available for families needing extra flexibility for their schedules, providing before and after camp care. There is a morning Keeners, from 8 to 9 a.m., and an afternoon Keeners, from 4 to 5 p.m. The program runs March 14 to 18 and March 21.
An arts and crafts camp for ages seven to 12 years old gives kids a chance to work on their artistic talents as they create keepsakes and memories by making fun crafts, from nature sticks to garden glove puppets and clay plaques to mobiles. The program runs from 1 to 4 p.m., March 21 to 24.
Pacific Sport is back this year with XploreSportZ Spring Break Camp for eight to 12 year olds. This program gives kids the opportunity to experience a number of sports under the direction of certified coaches. The sports camp takes place 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., March 21 to 24, at the community centre.
McLaren Arena will also host public skating every day March 14 to 18 from 3 to 5 p.m., and on March 20 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Fit Kidz Gymnastics Club, located at 199 Ellis St. is also running a spring break camp for ages three to five and older, Monday to Friday between March 18 to 22 and March 25 to 29. Both half and full day sessions are available. For more information, visit the website.
A spring break art camp is taking place at Shatford Centre for ages five to 12, March 14 to 18 and March 21 to 24, from 9 a.m. to noon, or from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Pottery instructor Kathleen Murphy will entertain the kids with a fun-filled week of pottery, collage making, painting, sculpting and other art forms. Participants should bring a snack, drink and a smock or an old shirt. To register, visit the Okanagan School of Arts website.
Springers Gymnastics Adventures, in the Cannery at #208, 1475 Fairview Rd., is also running Spring Break Camps March 14 to 18. The half or full day camps are geared for ages four and up. They also have a preschool gymnastics class for ages three to four, taking place March 18 to 22 and March 25 to 28. For more information, see the Springers website.
