Newspaper company wants documents unsealed on juror in murder trial of ex-NFL star Hernandez
FALL RIVER, Mass. – Newspaper company GateHouse Media is asking a judge to unseal documents relating to a juror in former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez’s recent murder trial in Massachusetts.
The company publishes Fall River’s The Herald News, the Taunton Daily Gazette and Quincy’s The Patriot Ledger. It says information about the unidentified juror must be made public.
Hernandez lawyer James Sultan last week filed papers under seal requesting an inquiry into the juror’s “exposure to significant extraneous matter.” A hearing is set for next week.
New York-based GateHouse Media Inc. said Friday the public has a right to review post-verdict proceedings, including information about a juror possibly exposed to information outside the courtroom.
Hernandez was convicted of the 2013 shooting death of acquaintance Odin (OH’-dihn) Lloyd. The Bristol, Connecticut, native was sentenced to life in prison.
