‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’ wins 2015 best play Tony Award
NEW YORK, N.Y. – The dazzling show “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” has won the 2015 Tony Award for best play.
The London import is based on an adaptation of Mark Haddon’s bestselling novel about a teenager with Asperger’s syndrome who tries to find a dog’s killer. It was adapted by playwright Simon Stephens and directed by Marianne Elliott.
The show is a swirling, beautifully kaleidoscopic series of scenes, that includes fantastical projections of constellations complicated city maps and terrifying escalators. A live rat is used with much humour.
It beat out “Hand to God,” ”Disgraced” and both parts of “Wolf Hall.”
The show began in The National Theatre’s smallest theatre but great reviews soon helped it jump to the West End’s Apollo Theatre, where it won seven Olivier Awards.
