MEXICO CITY – Authorities in the northern Mexico border state of Tamaulipas say they have arrested a suspect for the May murder of a journalist.
State prosecutor Irving Barrios Mojica said video from surveillance cameras had helped identify those who took part in the killing of Hector Gonzalez Antonio.
Gonzalez was a journalist with the national newspaper Excelsior.
Barrios says authorities did not initially discount that Gonzalez had been killed for his work, but evidence suggested he died while resisting the theft of his vehicle and equipment.
The man arrested Monday was allegedly driving one of the stolen vehicles used. Additional arrests are possible.
Gonzalez was found beaten to death on May 29 in the Tamaulipas state capital of Ciudad Victoria.
