Lady Gaga joins NY governor’s push for new campus sex assault policy at all colleges
ALBANY, N.Y. – Lady Gaga is teaming up with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to push for a new campus sexual assault policy at all the state’s colleges and universities.
The pop artist and the Democratic governor published a joint op-ed on Billboard Magazine’s website Monday urging lawmakers to extend a policy already in place at New York’s public universities to private schools as well.
The policy includes a new definition of sexual consent requiring a clear, affirmative agreement between partners. It also creates a victim’s bill of rights and boosts training for law enforcement, faculty and students.
In the op-ed, Gaga and Cuomo say that campus sexual assault is an “unacceptable epidemic” and that the bill is needed to reduce assaults and ensure justice for victims.
