UPDATE: Head-on crash sends 4 to hospital

VERNON – The investigation continues into the cause of a head-on collision on Highway 97 south of Vernon near the landfill.

A large SUV towing a camper trailer and an SUV crossover hit near Westridge Road around 6:00 a.m. Thursday.

Four people were rushed to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with traumatic but non-life threatening injuries, according to Shane Code with B.C. Ambulance.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says two of those people, a 54-year-old man and his 51-year-old wife remain in hospital while their daughter, 14, has been released. The adults are expected to recover. The family is from Calgary. 

The driver of the other vehicle, a 21-year-old Vernon man, receieved serious injuries and remains in hospital. 

The highway was closed for over an hour before it re-opened to one lane in each direction.

The route was fully open to traffic around 10:30 a.m. once the RCMP crash analyst was finished his investigation and the vehicles involved in the crash were removed.
