Top freestyle ski and snowboard talent converge on Silver Star

VERNON – Some of the most talented freestyle skiers and snowboarders will be competing for cash at the annual Showdown Throwdown Hoedown at Silver Star Mountain Resort this coming weekend.

Both pros and amateurs will be showing off at the resort Terrain Park March 26 and 27, according to a media release from Silver Star.

The athletes will be using the expert-level rails and huge jumps at the park in an effort to impress the judges and crowd.

“The depth of the local talent pool is amazing,” Erik Kalacis with Silver Star says in the release. “The biggest reasons for that are the community’s dedication to skier and snowboarder development, along with our incredible park, which is looking better than it ever has.”

Kalacis says there will be a beer garden, music and giveaways, along with hot food at Showdown Throwdown Hoedown.

The training runs and heats go Saturday, with the finals on Sunday.

Skiers and snowboarders can register online. Skiers have to have a Can Freestyle 3 or 4 license and snowboarders need a B.C. Snowboard membership to register.
