Federal minister announces $5.4 million in funding for ParticipAction
SASKATOON – The federal government has announced $5.4 million in funding for ParticipAction, an organization aimed at getting more Canadians active.
Heritage Minister Melanie Joly made the announcement Wednesday in Saskatoon, where she took to the South Saskatchewan River in a canoe.
Joly said the funding will be part of Canada’s celebrations next year of its 150th birthday.
Joly said it’s a chance to get more people involved in their communities.
Youth engagement is one of the four themes for the 2017 celebrations; the others include the environment, reconciliation and diversity.
Joly said sport is a way for people of all ages and backgrounds to get to know each other and “ultimately to help better our social cohesion.”
