KAMLOOPS – Two Kamloops Long Blades speed skaters did well competing against skaters from across Canada and around the world at the Canada Cup #4, in Calgary Long Track speed skating event, March 17 to 20 at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, Alta.
Skater Thom Keijzer had personal bests in 500m at 41,89 seconds, 1000m at 1.21,30, 1500m at 2.05,12, and 5000m at 7.32,59. Meanwhile teammate Sylvie Lloyd skated a personal best of 2.23,34 in the 1500m.
Keijzer and Lloyd competed with skaters from across Canada and around the world, including skaters from countries such as The Netherlands, Norway, Japan, USA, Estonia, China, Britain, and Switzerland as well as non-traditional skating countries such as Mongolia, Spain, Columbia, and India.
Also in Alberta, Martina Antifay of the Long Blades competed in the Canada West Short Track Championships held March 18 to 20. Martina got a bronze in the 400m for 12 year olds, as well as a silver in the 200m and a silver in the 3000m relay.
