Canada’s ‘badass’ Minister of Defence coming to Kelowna next month

KELOWNA – Canada’s famous Minister of Defence will be speaking about current military issues the country is facing while in Kelowna next month.

Harjit Sajjan, a Sikh, a soldier and an 11-year veteran of the Vancouver Police Department, also represents the riding of Vancouver South as MP and serves as Minister of National Defence. Sajjan’s picture went viral after the Lieutenant-Colonel and combat veteran was appointed by Justin Trudeau last October.

A media release from the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce says Sajjan was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina and served three separate deployments to Kandahar, Afghanistan. He has received numerous recognitions for his military service, including the Meritorious Service Medal for reducing the Taliban's influence in Kandahar Province, and is a recipient of the Order of Military Merit — one of the military's highest recognitions. He also served as an Aide-de-Camp to the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.

On Friday, April 8, he will address a Kelowna Chamber luncheon where he will speak to current military issues in Canada, and how the Liberal government plans to address them.

The luncheon, which is open to the public, begins at noon at the Manteo Resort on Lakeshore Road.
