How major US stock indexes fared Tuesday
The major U.S. stock indexes finished unevenly Tuesday after President Donald Trump said the U.S. was withdrawing from a landmark nuclear deal with Iran.
The policy shift, which would reinstate sanctions on the country, weighed on crude oil prices. Gains in banks and industrial companies were offset by losses in health care and consumer goods stocks.
On Tuesday:
The S&P 500 index dipped 0.71 points, or 0.03 per cent, to 2,671.92.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 2.89 points, or 0.01 per cent, to 24,360.21.
The Nasdaq rose 1.69 points, or 0.02 per cent, to 7,266.90.
The Russell 2000 index of smaller-company stocks picked up 7.44 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 1,586.39.
For the week:
The S&P 500 is up 8.50 points, or 0.3 per cent.
The Dow is up 97.70 points, or 0.4 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 57.28 points, or 0.8 per cent.
The Russell 2000 is up 20.79 points, or 1.3 per cent.
For the year:
The S&P 500 is down 1.69 points, or 0.06 per cent.
The Dow is down 359.01 points, or 1.4 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 363.51 points, or 5.3 per cent.
The Russell 2000 is up 50.88 points, or 3.3 per cent.
