Previously released prisoners report harshness in N. Korea
President Donald Trump said when he welcomed three Americans home early Thursday that North Korea’s Kim Jong Un “was excellent to these three incredible people.”
But other Americans who were detained in North Korea’s prisons describe harsh conditions.
Former prisoner Kenneth Bae says he worked from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in fields and coal mines.
Aijalon Gomes was released in 2011 and said he tried to commit suicide while in captivity. Gomes burned to death in a field in San Diego last year.
Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak Song and Tony Kim were welcomed home by Trump early Thursday. They were taken to a military hospital, which is giving them time to decompress before reuniting them with families.
When the plane carrying them home stopped to refuel, one reportedly asked to go outside because he hadn’t seen daylight in a long time.
