Court upholds child neglect convictions in DUI case

RICHMOND, Va. – A Virginia court has rejected the appeal of a woman convicted of felony child neglect after driving drunk with her two children in the car.

The appeals court last week rejected Leslie Itutu Camp’s claim that a trial court erred when relying upon evidence of her blood alcohol content to support her child neglect convictions.

A Fredericksburg police officer encountered Camp on Christmas night 2014 after seeing her driving an SUV with two flat tires.

She was subsequently arrested for drunken driving, with a blood-alcohol content measuring .25, more than three times the legal limit.

The appeals court said her blood-alcohol level and testimony by a forensic toxicologist constituted sufficient evidence to conclude that she exposed her children to a probability of injury when driving with them in the car.
