Group continues fight against power lines near Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, Va. – A conservation group is continuing its legal fight against a power line project near historic Jamestown Island in Virginia.

The group filed a notice of appeal Friday after a judge recently ruled that construction could continue.

The National Parks Conservation Association and other groups sued to stop the project in federal court, claiming the towers will harm the historic view.

Dominion Energy plans to string power lines across the James River. Towers supporting the wires would stand in the river near the site of Britain’s first permanent settlement in North America.

Dominion says the project is needed to meet the region’s energy needs. The company is building foundations on which the towers will stand. Tower construction is expected to begin sometime after July 1.
