Chase man arrested trying to steal a car in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – A Chase man is cooling his heels in the Kamloops RCMP lockup after he tried to steal a car in an effort to get away from police last night.

RCMP say it all started at about 6 p.m., March 25, when officers tried to pull over a speeding driver who was eastbound on the Trans Canada.

The driver took off but wound up ditching the minivan in the Valleyview area, according to a RCMP media release. Three suspects in the van ran off.

Police caught up with the driver when he tried to force his way into a home, RCMP say. He demanded the homeowners give him the keys to their car, saying he had a gun.

The man was arrested and police say no gun was found.

A 44-year-old Chase man, who is known to police, is facing charges of flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and attempted armed robbery.
