UK supermarket recalls peanuts over missing ‘peanuts’ label

LONDON – The supermarket chain Lidl is recalling honey roasted peanuts sold in its U.K. stores because the word “peanut” in English is missing from the ingredients list on the back of some packets.

The packets prominently feature the words “Peanuts” above a picture of the snack on the front.

The German-owned company said in a statement Tuesday that European rules require that allergens must be highlighted in English on the ingredients list too, which wasn’t the case on all packets.

Peanut allergies are among the most common food allergies. Even small amounts can cause an adverse reaction to those with allergies, who know to look out for the ingredient.

Lidl said it is also recalling a fruit yoghurt that didn’t warn consumers about the presence of milk.
