CAMPBELLVILLE, Ont. – Elimination winners Wiggle It Jiggleit, Wakizashi Hanover and In The Arsenal will top the 10-horse field for the $1-million Pepsi North America Cup on Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack.
The race is the world’s richest pacing event with the winner earning $500,000.
Last weekend three elimination races were held to determine the field for the final. The top-three finishers in each, plus a fourth-place finisher drawn by lot, qualified.
The three race winners earned their connections the right to choose a post position before the balance of the field was drawn.
Unbeaten Wiggle It Jiggleit was installed as the 8/5 early favourite. The American-owned colt will start from post three and look for a 12th straight victory.
Somebeachsomewhere was the last undefeated horse to win this event, doing so in 2008.
Wakizashi Hanover, owned by Tri County Stable of Truro, N.S., beat 1/5 favourite Artspeak by 1 3/4 lengths for the upset victory in the third elimination. Wakizashi Hanover’s connections selected post two.
In The Arsenal won his elimination by a half-length over Penji Hanover in 1:49.4. His connections selected post five.
