Trails at Peterson Creek closed due to flooding

KAMLOOPS – The Billy Miner Trail at Peterson Creek Park has been closed since last week when a flash-flood damaged walkways.

The City is now working to repair the trails and assess the level of damage. Hikers are asked to respect signs and temporary re-routing to existing trails. The access road beside Escape Trail is also closed.

The flash flood hit Kamloops July 23 during a sudden, torrential storm. Managers at the City are estimating repairs to infrastructure will cost $3 million.

"We'll have much more tangible information once that report comes together," manage with the city, Jen Fretz said.

Staff are preparing a report containing an assessment of damages and actual cost. It is expected 80 per cent of the cost will be covered by disaster financial assistance from the province.
