KAMLOOPS – Police had to deploy a helicopter to track a car thief when he turned to dangerous driving maneuvers in his attempt to flee.
The first car stolen by the suspect was tracked by a CN Rail police officer who was attempting to pull the car over at the Red Lake train crossing for violations under the railway act.
The driver then began to drive erratically and an RCMP helicopter was deployed to track the vehicle. Reports came in from the public that the original vehicle had been dumped and a second vehicle stolen in an effort to evade police. The second car was taken from the Bocklehurst area.
RCMP members patrolled the area while information on the location of stolen vehicle came from those in the air. Once the second vehicle was abandoned, Mounties in the helicopter were able to direct members to where the suspect was hiding. He was arrested without incident.
