Series tied as Blazers beat Rockets

KAMLOOPS – The Kamloops Blazers defeated the Kelowna Rockets 5-1 on Wednesday night at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops, tying the team's first round WHL playoff series at two games apiece.

Kamloops scored twice in the first five minutes of the game, before Calvin Thurkauf replied for the Rockets with his first of the playoffs.

But the Blazers added another late in the period and led 3-1 after the first before adding goals in each of the next two periods.

Shots on the night were tied 38-38.

Neither team struck on the power play as the Rockets were 0-for-2 and the Blazers 0-for-4.

The series now shifts to Kelowna for game five Friday night at Prospera Place.

Game six is in Kamloops on Saturday night and a potential game seven would be played on Monday at Prospera Place in Kelowna.
