Puerto Rico makes it legal to own, sell, breed pit bulls
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The U.S. territory of Puerto Rico has once again made it legal to own, breed and sell pit bulls following a two-decade ban.
Gov. Ricardo Rossello said Monday that the ban was discriminatory and did not serve the purpose intended. People on the island continued to own and sell the breed despite the ban, and several attacks have been reported in recent years.
The governor’s wife, Beatriz Rossello, said owners were not properly taking care of their pit bulls out of fear they would be confiscated.
