Michigan State University plans Saturday opening for Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum

EAST LANSING, Mich. – A $40-$45 million Zaha Hadid-designed art museum opens Saturday at Michigan State University.

The Eli and Edythe Broad (BROHD) Art Museum features a facade of pleated stainless steel and glass, a look that distinguishes it from the traditional brick buildings that surround it on the East Lansing campus.

The 46,000-square-foot Broad museum features a collection of 7,500 objects from the Greek and Roman periods through the Renaissance and on to Modern, a number of which were donated by Broad, a Los Angeles billionaire and Michigan State graduate.

The East Lansing school held a media preview on Friday, and a dedication ceremony is on tap for Saturday.

The Broads have given $28 million for the museum.
