CAMDEN, S.C. – A South Carolina sheriff says deputies chased down an unconscious driver on foot and revived him with CPR.
Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said the truck was hitting both sides of the U.S. Highway 1 bridge over the Wateree River and the driver was in a daze Wednesday.
Matthews says the truck slowed down enough that a deputy could run it down and jump in the passenger side. The man’s heart had stopped, but he was revived with CPR.
Matthews said in a statement deputies found an empty bottle of prescription painkillers in the driver’s pocket, and the sheriff thinks he overdosed.
Matthews didn’t release the man’s name, but says his officers told him he was “raising Cain” at the hospital.
