Amazon.com and top publisher, Penguin Random House, reach long-term agreement
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Amazon.com has reached a long-term agreement with the country’s largest publisher, Penguin Random House, according to a spokeswoman for the online retailer.
Amazon’s Sarah Gelman said Thursday that the agreement is for the U.S. and the U.K., but provided no other details. Penguin Random House spokesman Stuart Applebaum declined to confirm a deal, but said that the publisher is “still in business with Amazon.”
Since last year’s contentious standoff between Amazon and Hachette Book Group over terms for e-book revenues, Hachette and the four leading New York publishers have reached multiyear agreements with the retailer. Industry watchers have speculated whether Penguin Random House, where authors range from E L James to John Green, would receive better terms than other publishers because of its greater power in the marketplace.
