Unprepared hiker rescued near West Kelowna
WEST KELOWNA – A lost hiker was rescued by emergency crews in Rose Valley north of West Kelowna last night after getting turned around as the sun set.
RCMP, West Kelowna firefighters and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue volunteers were last night, April 3, to look for a man in his 50s who had become disorientated and got lost while hiking on the trails in the area.
Police were in contact with the man by cell phone until it died, according to Search and Rescue spokesperson Duane Tesnich in a media release.
A search and rescue ATV team found the man in Hayman Lake area. He wasn’t dressed for the drop in temperature so was cold but “otherwise none the worse for wear.”
“COSAR would like to remind people that even though it Is warm in the valley, it is still winter in the mountains and gets very cold at night so be prepared for a wide variety of conditions,” search and rescue spokesperson Duane Tesnich says in the release.
