ELLISVILLE, Miss. – A south Mississippi man was critically injured Tuesday after his pickup truck was hit by an Amtrak train.
Ellisville police tell The Hattiesburg American that they found a pickup truck upside down beside Norfolk Southern Railway tracks.
The train’s engineer told police the pickup was stopped on a crossing.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says none of the crew members or 59 passengers aboard the northbound Crescent was injured.
Police say the man, whom they didn’t identify, was alert after the wreck. He was taken by helicopter to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. His condition is unknown.
Magliari says the train suffered only superficial damage and continued on its journey from New Orleans to New York after about an hour.
