Under construction house goes up in flames near Penticton

PENTICTON – Fire destroyed a log home under construction in a rural area near Penticton early this morning.

Penticton firefighters were called the house fire on Carmi Avenue near Saliken Drive at about 5:21 a.m., April 3.

Deputy fire chief Dave Spalding says the house is outside the Penticton fire protection area, so while they sent an engine and crew, the house was allowed to burn itself out.

A B.C. Wildfire initial attack crew put out a grass fire sparked by the burning log home, according to an emailed statement from fire information officer Ryan Turcot.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by the homeowner’s insurance company, Spalding says.
