TORONTO – Television ratings for Canada’s group stage games at the Women’s World Cup are up significantly from four years ago.
TSN says it averaged two million viewers for Canada’s first three matches, more than four times the 459,000 who tuned in for the opening games in 2011 when the tournament was held in Germany.
Canada’s second game — a 0-0 draw with New Zealand on June 11 — was the top-rated contest with an average audience of 2.3 million, an all-time high for Canadian viewership of the tournament.
TSN also says the World Cup has accounted for 3.5 million total page views on TSN.ca in the month of June.
In the U.S., Fox has also seen record viewership numbers with five million fans tuning in for Tuesday’s U.S.-Nigeria game, an all-time high for soccer on the network.
FIFA says its YouTube channel has registered more than 7.5 million views so far.
