Beach party kicks off summer season for Penticton RCMP

PENTICTON – In a sign of the changing seasons, police were called to the first beach party in 2016.

Thursday night, March 31, Penticton RCMP responded to a complaint of a group of youths congregating at Skaha Beach, RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says.

Three young women were arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. One was released in the care of her grandmother while the other two were held until they were sober. The youths had also lit fires using pallets, which left the beach littered with nails.

Police also responded to a break-in at the Okanagan Builders Supply compound, overnight Monday, March 28. While a window was smashed in on one of the vehicles, police have no reports of anything missing.

Also overnight March 28, a Honda Rubicon quad with a plow and winch was stolen from 88 Calgary Ave.

Police recovered a 1999 Toyota Tacoma, which was reported stolen out of Osoyoos several days earlier, from the conservation parking lot on White Lake Road.

On Thursday, March 31, police recovered a stolen 1978 Ford Bronco at Oliver Ranch Road and Sun Valley Way, south of Okanagan Falls. The truck had been reported stolen out of Summerland the same day.

Overnight Friday, April 1, a generator was stolen from the Bourbon Street Barbecue food truck while parked in a parking lot. The generator was attached to the hitch of the truck and was pried off causing minor damage to the vehicle.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
