Food Film Fest finds its way to the Okanagan

PENTICTON – Food and film lovers will want to be in Osoyoos next month.

Devour! Okanagan is described as a Food Film Festival and will be held at the Watermark Beach Resort in Osoyoos from May 6 to May 8.

Chefs from Osoyoos and across B.C. put together a feast — on screen and on the plate, according to the event's website.

The event is an extension of an international celebration of cinema, food and wine culture created by Nova Scotia Chef Michael Howell.

Devour! Okanagan starts with a chef showdown on Friday, May 6, pitting local chef Adair Scott against chef Michael Howell in an East-West showdown. The two will create cocktails paired with canapés for 80 guests, starting at 7 p.m. Cost is $45 per person with dancing at 9 p.m.

Waterfront Beach Resort’s boardwalk becomes a Slow Food Market on Saturday where local artisans and producers set up their wares.

Saturday night, culinary memories will be made as a six course meal is prepared by several culinary craftsmen. Each course will be paired with a selection of Similkameen wines and a food-themed film. Chefs and winemakers will be present to explain their inspiration for each course. Tickets are $65, and the dinner starts at 6 p.m.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
