Golden Hawks down Canadians 3-1 for second straight win at RBC Cup

LLOYDMINSTER, Sask. – Quinn Lenihan had a goal and an assist and Daniel Urbani stopped 20 shots as the Trenton Golden Hawks beat the Carleton Place Canadians 3-1 on Sunday to pick up their second victory in as many days at the RBC Cup.

Lucas Brown and Curtis Harvey rounded out the offence for Trenton (2-0), which opened Canada’s junior-A championship tournament with a 3-2 win over the Brooks Bandits on Saturday.

Lenihan’s goal, at 12:46 of the third period, broke a 1-1 tie.

Bryce Van Horn had the lone goal for the Canadians (0-1) while Colton Point turned aside 38 shots in the losing effort.

Later Sunday, the Bandits bounced back from their opening day loss with a commanding 5-1 victory over the West Kelowna Warriors.

Logan Mick scored twice and added an assist for Brooks (1-1), Joe O’Connor had a goal and a helper, and Cale Makar and Jeff Malott also scored.

Garret Hughson stopped 36 shots for the win.

Jake LeBrun replied for the Warriors (1-1), who beat the host Lloydminster Bobcats in their first game on Saturday night, and Keelan Williams made 41 saves.
