Old Dominion University closes for entire day after threat

NORFOLK, Va. – Police at Virginia’s Old Dominion University say that no explosives were found after an anonymous bomb threat was made.

The university in Norfolk said in a statement Thursday afternoon that police had given the “all clear” to reopen the campus on Friday. Classes and other activities were cancelled after the threat came in Thursday morning.

News outlets report that all offices and buildings had been closed. Staff was instructed not to report to campus, and students were told to stay inside their secured residence halls.

The school says more than 24,000 graduate and undergraduate students are enrolled and it has more than 3,000 faculty and staff.

The Virginian-Pilot reported that several streets around the campus were closed.
