Michael Sam reported back in Montreal, but not confirmed he will return to Alouettes
MONTREAL – Reports on Thursday said rush end Michael Sam is back in Montreal.
Both RDS and TSN radio reported that Sam was in town, but it was unknown if the first openly gay player drafted in the NFL will return to the Montreal Alouettes.
Sam signed a two-year contract with Montreal but left two weeks into training camp.
“It was always anticipated that he’d come back,” said Alouettes coach Tom Higgins. “But I don’t have any information about Michael coming back.”
General manager Jim Popp said he also heard that Sam was in Montreal but had no other information.
Popp said when Sam left that the door was open if he wished to return. He expected Sam to return at some point and said that if he didn’t his career may be over. Popp felt Sam may have just needed of time to reflect on his career.
The Alouettes played their regular season opener on Thursday night, a 20-16 loss to Ottawa.
