South Okanagan bird rehabilitation centre open house

PENTICTON – Animal lovers looking to get up close and personal with the birds at the South Okanagan Rehabilitation Centre for Owls should mark May 1 on the calendar.

That’s the only day of the year the centre, located at 8965 Highway 97 north of Oliver, is open to the public and there will be tours, local exhibitors, a silent auction, and interactive education displays and activities for kids, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Houdini, the rehab centre mascot, will also be on hand, as will two baby great horned owls the rehab centre just received. The two baby owls are 10 days and eight weeks old, respectively.

Manager Dale Belvedere says the event attracted 900 people last year and she expects even more guests this year.

“We’ve changed things up a bit this year with the barbecue, and the silent auction will be huge,” she says.

Entry is by donation.
