Firefighters battling small grassfire near Ord Road

KAMLOOPS – Firefighters quickly knocked down a grassfire near the dog park on Ord Road that was started by a passing train this afternoon.

Kamloops Fire Rescue are mopping up the scene on Tranquille Road by the Kamloops Golf and Country Club. Capt. Brian Lannon says the brakes on a CN train seized and shot sparks starting a fire roughly one kilometre long. They were joined on scene by additional crews from Kamloops Airport as well as railroad police.

The railroad there is closed down and trains have stopped while they ensure the fire is out.
