YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Funeral services have been scheduled for five children killed in a fire at their Ohio home.
Services for the children who ranged in age from 1 to 9 will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at New Bethel Baptist Church in Youngstown.
Penny Wells, director of Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past, says a two-hour visitation will precede the services at the church Saturday. Wells is among community members helping raise funds to cover the children’s funeral arrangements.
She says around $30,000 had been raised as of Thursday.
Fire officials’ investigation into what caused the Dec. 9 blaze is continuing. Authorities have said there’s no sign the fire was suspicious.
Fire Capt. Kurt Wright confirmed the children’s injured mother, 26-year-old America (Amy) Negron Acevedo, has been released from a hospital.
