DAYTON, Ohio – The attorney for the family of a man fatally shot by police at an Ohio Wal-Mart two years ago is scheduled to meet with U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
The meeting comes two years after the Department of Justice opened an investigation into the shooting of John Crawford III at a Beavercreek Wal-Mart.
Crawford family attorney Michael Wright told the Dayton Daily News (http://bit.ly/2ctqeKm) he hopes the Sept. 30 meeting provides insight into why the investigation is taking so long.
Justice Department officials didn’t immediately return calls for comment Friday.
A 911 caller on Aug. 5, 2014, reported a man waving a gun at the store. It was actually an air rifle taken from a shelf. Police say Crawford refused to drop it. The officer wasn’t charged.
