Police: 17 suspects behind attack on Haiti police station
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – Haitian police say investigators have sent a report to prosecutors identifying 17 suspects in a deadly attack on a police station in May.
Police spokesman Garry Desrosiers says the report has been forwarded to the public prosecutor in the southern town of Les Cayes. It is up to that office to issue arrest warrants.
Desrosiers declined Monday to identify any suspects in the May 16 attack on the Les Cayes station that killed one officer. Two dozen guns were stolen.
But lawyers for ex-paramilitary Guy Philippe say their client is one of the men sought. Philippe has been rumoured to be the organizer.
Attorney Reynold Georges says his client is innocent and has immunity from arrest as a Senate candidate.
Georges asserts that Haiti’s interim government was behind the attack.
