“Minimal” incidents this weekend at Funtastic

 VERNON – For the most part, those attending Funtastic this weekend played by the rules and stayed out of trouble.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says the event went quite smoothly, considering the volume of people—and alcohol—involved.

"Given the number of people in attendance at the venue, there were a minimal number of incidents that took place that needed to be dealt with considering there was approximately 40,000 visits to the beer gardens," Molendyk said.

Close to 20,000 people attended the four day event, which features concerts and a slow pitch tournament.

"The vast majority of encounters between police and the public are very cordial and on the positive side," Molendyk said. "Our officers felt it was a great chance to be proactive, mingle and welcome the ball players and party to our city."

"The ongoing working relationship between the Military Police, ICM security and the Funtastic organizing committee has been a definite benefit and goes a long way to make this a wonderful event for the city of Vernon and surrounding communities."
