Tools targeted in Naramata theft spree

NARAMATA – Several Naramata residents were targeted in a crime spree this week.

RCMP say officers are investigating numerous reports of theft in the community on Wednesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 14.

Two quads, including a 2006 black Honda Arctic Cat and a 2009 red Honda, were reported stolen from a Debeck Road residence, according to a RCMP media release.

Residents on Ritchie Road reported tools stolen from a residence, with another reporting tools stolen from a vehicle.

A Stihl chainsaw, Stihl leaf blower and Stihl weedwacker were taken from a McPhee Road garage overnight, while a Robinson Road resident reported theft of her Rayban sunglasses from her vehicle, police say.

A U-built trailer along with a black and white side-by-side ATV were stolen from a home in the 2600-block of Naramata Road. The items had been chained to a tree and the lock was cut.

More tools went missing from a Hayman Road residence, including a drill with the name “Riley” written on it and several tools. A Boothe Road resident reported a child’s bicycle taken.

Police are reminding people to secure their vehicles and belongings to make it more difficult for thieves.

"It is evident (the thieves) went to great lengths to cut locks and overcome security, however in the majority of incidents, it appears to have been an easy opportunity to take valuables from an insecure location,” RCMP Cpl. Chris Richardson says in the release.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cpl. Robinson at 250-492-4300, or to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
