Magic of Disney Animation attraction to close at Hollywood Studios in Florida in July
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Magic of Disney Animation is closing at Hollywood Studios.
The Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1g6YEzN ) reports the attraction will close July 12 to make way for a new attraction.
Disney officials say the adjacent Animation Gallery will remain open through late August. The park recently closed the Studios Backlot Tour and the American Idol Experience. The large sorcerer’s hat that had become an icon was also removed.
Disney CEO Bob Iger told shareholders in March the park will get a new name, which hasn’t yet been disclosed. It became Hollywood Studios in 2008.
The animation attraction was among the original features when the park opened in 1989 as Disney-MGM Studios. It allows visitors to watch actual Disney animators at work and includes a short film about how Disney characters are made.
