REGINA – The RCMP’s official change of command ceremony was held Thursday at Depot Division in Regina.
The ceremony marks the symbolic handover of authority to Commissioner Brenda Lucki from outgoing Commissioner Bob Paulsen.
During the ceremony, a parade of cadets, members, veterans and employees performed a ceremonial march-past to honour the former and the new commissioner.
It also featured the handing over of the commissioner’s tipstaff, which contains the official change of command document.
Lucki, who is 53, became the RCMP’s first permanent female boss in March.
Before being appointed as the commissioner, she was the commanding officer of the RCMP’s training academy.
RCMP say she chose Depot as the location for the ceremony because it holds a special significance for her and all Mounties who started their careers there.
Lucki has more than 32 years experience with the RCMP, serving in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan. (CTV Regina/The Canadian Press)
