Kevin Bieksa has agreed to terms on a US$8-million, two-year contract extension with the Anaheim Ducks.
The defenceman went to the Ducks in a trade from the Vancouver Canucks on the eve of free agency.
The 34-year-old who spent the past 10 seasons in Vancouver replaces Francois Beauchemin on the right side of Anaheim’s blue line.
Bieksa had one year left on his current deal at a cap hit of $4.6 million.
The Grimsby, Ont., native approved a trade to the Ducks to join former teammate Ryan Kesler.
“They had a great year the last couple years, obviously are very close to winning a Stanley Cup and have the right team for that,” Bieksa said Tuesday. “So I’m very excited to be a Duck now.”
