Home heavily damaged in fire

KELOWNA – A fire has destroyed a home on Merrifield Road but no one was injured in the blaze.

Kelowna Fire Department was called to 330 Merrifield Road around 12:05 this afternoon. Platoon Capt. Dale Calhoun says the two-storey house was fully involved when firefighters arrived.

"Crews were able to contain fire to the house and protect exposures to other properties in the area," he said in a release Monday. "Once fire was knocked down, fire crews were able to gain access and complete a search in house to make sure no one was inside."

One person was treated for minor burns to hands and feet before taken to Kelowna General Hospital. Fire crews remain on scene mopping up hot spots.

The cause is unknown. The Kelowna Fire Department fire Investigator is on scene to determine the cause of fire.
