KELOWNA – Five companies wanting to open seven different cannabis retail shops will have their applications reviewed by Kelowna city council on Monday.

Few details about the size or types of shops were released today, March 21, in the council agenda package. If approved by council, the applications will go to a public hearing but no date is indicated as of yet.

The applicants and locations are:

  • Flora (Bernard) Enterprises has two applications. One is at 547-559 Bernard Ave. on the south side between Ellis and Bertram Streets, while the other location is 401 Glenmore Rd. on the southeast corner of the Kane Road intersection.
  • Christy and Associates have also applied for two stores. One is for 140-160 Rutland Rd. near Highway 33 and the other is at 1455-1475 Harvey Ave. on the southwest corner of the intersection with Burtch Road.
  • Steven Jones has applied for a site at 3818 Gordon Dr., which is in a strip mall south of Cook Road. In a letter attached to the file, Steven and Shauna Jones are mentioned as the owners of Abaco Health, which is already in the mall and holding space for the cannabis shop.
  • Lightbox Enterprises Ltd.’s application is for 2121 Springfield Rd. on the southeast corner of the Cooper Road intersection. In an attached letter, Jeff Donnelly says they are proposing a 2,527 square foot shop.
  • A numbered company, 10330698 Canada Ltd., has applied for a location at 2090 Harvey Ave. at the northwest corner at Cooper Road.

Another eight rezoning applications are expected to go to council at future meetings, out of the 41 that originally applied last fall.
