BISMARCK, N.D. – Three North Dakota politicians say they will tandem parachute jump with members of the U.S. Navy’s parachute team.
North Dakota Republican Gov. Doug Burgum, Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney and Republican U.S. House hopeful Kelly Armstrong are becoming the latest politicians to try extreme stunts to draw attention to a cause — or to themselves.
Armstrong calls it a “cool” thing to do but says his wife is making sure his life insurance is paid up.
Burgum says he’s doing it to highlight the “professionalism and skill of the armed services.”
Politicians elsewhere have done similar stunts. But no modern politician likely has matched the exploits of former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens. The former Navy Seal once rappelled into a bull-riding event and entered a burning building with firefighters.
