Roads closed after utility lines knocked down in the Mission
KELOWNA – A couple of roads in the Mission were closed after a truck took down some utility lines with its boom this afternoon.
Kelowna RCMP say emergency crews have closed Gordon Drive and Dehart Road this afternoon, April 21, until further notice.
“There is no risk to the residents in the area as the lines knocked down are not believed to be electrical lines, but phone and cable lines,” Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release.
Parents and childcare providers with kids at Dorothea Walker Elementary School are being asked to pickup the children from Lakeshore Road, he says.
“Police will establish a circular route for guardians to safely enter the school zone area to pick up children and leave,” O’Donaghey says in the release. “RCMP will be in the area for traffic control.”
A truck with a boom snagged some lines and pulled down several utility poles, according to a Global Okanagan report.
Gordon Drive and Dehart Roads will remain closed until crews clear the lines.
