PENTICTON – A man is custody after a foot chase with police following an early morning break-in at a Penticton pub.
RCMP say they were called to a burglar alarm at the Barley Mill Brew Pub on Skaha Road shortly after 4 a.m., April 22, and were on the scene in two minutes.
Officers spotted a man behind the pub holding a garbage bag who took off on foot, according to an RCMP media release. The suspect was caught after a foot chase spanning several blocks.
The suspect had used a ladder to get on the roof and break into the pub through a skylight.
The garbage bag the man was carrying was full of cigarettes stolen from the cigarette machine and 40 bottles of alcohol were found in boxes stashed in a shopping cart outside the pub, police say.
A 30-year-old Penticton man is in custody and is scheduled to appear in Penticton Provincial Court today to face charges of break, enter and theft, resisting arrest and possession of stolen property.
