Judge orders Albany motel to close by Tuesday

ALBANY, Ga. – A judge in Georgia has ordered an Albany motel to shut its doors by Tuesday.

WALB-TV reports Dougherty County Superior Court Judge Willie Lockette issued a ruling Friday, saying the Albany Palace Inn cannot accept any more new guests after Monday at 10 a.m., and all guests must move out by Tuesday.

District Attorney Greg Edwards says Albany will not tolerate “havens of crime anymore.” He says closing the business is a first step in cleaning up the city.

Edwards says the motel has become a centre of too many drug and prostitution crimes. He says his office and the Palace Inn owners are still in negotiations, and if the motel meets all of the city’s requirements, there is still a chance it could remain open.
